State Route 46 (466 in 1955) and 41 interchange, east of Cholame, CA.
On Sept. 30, 1955, Dean was traveling west on 46, Donald Turnupseed was traveling east. Turnupseed crossed into Dean's lane making the left turn onto SR 41, and Dean's Porsche Type 550 Spyder struck Turnupseed's Ford, killing Dean. It is now known as the James Dean Memorial Junction.
