statue, monument, sculpture
According to Greek mythology, Ganymede, the handsome king's son, was kidnapped and taken up to the top of Mount Olympus. This statue by Hermann Hubacher in 1952 does not, however, depict this kidnapping, but symbolizes instead man's longing to ascend Mount Olympus: hand raised, Ganymede pleads with Zeus, father of the gods, (who appears as the eagle) to bear him up.
