The Nationaal Landschap Het Groene Woud combines the areas of Kampina, Mortelen, Geelders, Dommeldal and Scheeken and new housing should not be built there. It has varied types of terrain and thus flora and fauna.
A Nationaal Landschap is an agricultural area in the Netherlands, selected on the basis of a combination of an agricultural area, nature, and culture-historic configuration. The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture selected twenty national landscapes in 2004. In contrast to a national park with space for housing, little companies and agriculture, in a national landscape nature and old culture elements, like roads, mounds, dykes, etc. are conserved. A clear difference between a national landscape and a national park is probably sometimes difficult to give, as shows the international discussion after the foundation (1969) of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
