Lakeville State Hospital closed in 1992. Originally, Lakeville State Sanatorium, it was founded to provide treatment and care primarily for tuberculosis patients. As the need for dedicated TB facilities diminished, it became a long term treatment facility for the chronically ill. In its later years it no longer served as an in-patient facility, but housed a variety of state offices. The 72 acre property is scheduled for mixed use redevelopment, after the old buildings are demolished.
