  • I can see the motel from here.
  • This is not the original set used in PSYCHO. That one was located on another part of the lot that was later developed for the tour. The original idea was to move it to this location, but the house was so termite ridden that it was demolished. This new one was built following the original architect's plans. Same for the Bates Motel. And the Muster's home as well as all the original residential home sets.
  • The Psycho house was also used in a 1960 episode of "Thriller" called "The Purple Room" The outside of the house is shown in an early scene, where the actors are preparing to spend the night.
  • I'm looking at it right now in Season 2 Episode 22 of the old NBC western drama "Laramie". The episode is called "Rimrock" and it first aired 3/21/1961. The house looks creepier than it did in Psycho and Laramie's star Jess Harper (Robert Fuller) calls it a "pig well". The part-time resident of the house is an alcoholic junkie named Sheriff Grant McClintock (who pretends to be his own dead brother). He uses it as his drug den.
  • Now I am looking at it again in Season 2 Episode 23 of Laramie (first aired 4/4/1961). In this episode it is being used as an asylum/sanitariam run by the shady Dr. Tolan and his assistant (played by Richard Kiel). The character (Cory Lake) played by Charles Bronson is commited by his evil greedy uncle and kept in the same basement where Norman Bates' mother's corpse was discovered in Psycho (the door under the stairwell).
