  I stayed there in 1988, on my second visit to Thailand. It was a good location for going places in Bangkok, but it's nice being on the river. It was a nice hotel in 1988. I won my second trip on a TV contest! A UHF station in Dallas had a week of terrible monster movies. Each night, they asked some trivia question, supposedly asked by some ficticious character, about the movie, and the first caller with the correct answer won. At the end of the week, they asked a trivia question that was supposed to be about one of the movies. I recorded every movie and even took notes. I wrote down all the credits for the movies and everything. The question on Friday wasn't really about the movie, it was "Who asked the trivia question on Wednesday night?" I tried calling, but the line was busy. I kept calling for about ten minutes. People must have been calling and just guessing. Finally, I got through, and had the right answer. I stayed in Bangkok, at the Montien at the beginning and end of my trip, and the Montien in Pattaya in between. I was sort of poor at the time, so I sold the other ticket (it was a trip for two) for spending money. I got to see my girlfriend, Narumon Khunmana (who broke up with me later) and Supawon Srisathienwong, a very nice friend who I lost touch with later. I wish I knew whatever happened to her.

  The Thai ‘Palace’ in Need of Renovation affordable price for Thainess in The Montien or Thai Palace, its north wing is under full renovation Location: ***** at the heart of Bangkok Surawong and famous Patpong area, easily accessible by private car or taxi and public transport, just 500 m walking distance via Patpong street to Sala Daeng BTS station, ask the taxi to drop you via Rama IV road if you plan to arrive there late at night because they may refuse to go via the busy Surawong entrance Universal design: * the old design is not for wheelchair person, very small room entrance, 69 cm. toilet door, shower in the bathtub, stairways with many steps more than 10 cm. high in the lobby, no disabled parking, lift and toilet, I hope the renovation will be more universal design concern, more detailed universal design review at https://tp--wheeliefriendly.blogspot.com/2019/07/0185-montien-bangkok.html Cleanness: **** the room, dining room and toilet are all at standard cleanness with good maintenance even they are quite old, by the way, I’m so curious about the cigarette smell in the corridor Safety: *** no keycard to access the room, the old fashion room key attached to a golden bell is not easy to carry on, available security guards at both entrances via Surawong and Ram IV roads Food: **** a wide variety of food for included breakfast Privacy: **** able to maintain guest’s privacy in most of the area Internet:***** fast and strong signal free wifi in the room and lobby Staffs: *** most of my previous stays, the staffs are friendly and helpful but not the last one, I arrived quite late after midnight, no one at the reception and I have to wait, the staff at the concierge counter did notice my arrival but without help, both work and personal conversation of the staff in the restaurant is too loud Facilities: **** standard facilities in the room, the restaurant, swimming pool Value: ***** reasonable price for the hotel in busy Bangkok area
