The Monuments
The study of Fiechter leads to a conclusion essential and important that had a decisive influence on the research program in progress. And ' the fact that the sanctuary of Apollo Amyklaion was made up of four architectural units : the throne , the colossal statue of worship with the tomb of Hyacinth, the circular altar and the fence ( Peribolos ) .

Given the fact that in the period between 1925 and 2005 , a period in which it was implemented the program of research on the archaeological site of Amykles , this area had not yet been investigated archaeologically , the new topographic survey of the hill of Agia Kyriaki , as well as the wider area surrounding the hill , was considered as top priority. In this effort were included all excavation data of previous studies , such as those of Tsountas of 1890/1891 , of Buschor Fiechter , 1907 and 1925 , as well as the remains of the monuments on site.

All architectural structures that were found scattered on the hill have been assembled into new site and arranged in categories. In order to study systematically the vast number of stones, which were used as building material for the edification of the church of Agia Kyriaki , the exterior of the church was removed. Moreover, it was also possible to demolish the bench built on the wall of the aisle outside of the church , so that the material already known it was enriched with a score of new architectural elements that belonged to the throne and the altar. In an attempt to identify the building materials that made up the monuments of the sanctuary, re-used mostly during the post- Byzantine era as well as modern , their research was also extended to the wider area , with a radius of about 20 kilometers around Sparta . This effort has borne fruit , plenty of fragments have been identified, later reused as building material in the churches of the Prophet Elijah , of St. Theodore and St. Nikolaos , located in the modern village of Amykles , as well as in the church of Panagia in the village and Parori in St. Nicholas at the site of Daphne.

Finally , the origin of the material that was used for the construction of the monuments known could be clarified with precision . On the basis of laboratory analyzes , it was confirmed that the material comes from Taigeto , and in particular from the two slots placed in the sites of Gynaika and Kalyvia of Sochas , which are still at a distance of ten kilometers from the Sanctuary .
