The Carmen de Andacollo mine is located in central Chile, adjacent to the town of Andacollo, approximately 55 kilometres southeast of La Serena and 350 kilometres north of Santiago.
The mine is located near the southern limit of the Atacama Desert at an elevation of 1,000 metres. The majority of mine personnel live in the town of Andacollo, immediately adjacent to the mine or in the nearby cities of Coquimbo and La Serena.
Teck is owner of a 90% of the mine, with Empresa Nacional de Minería, a Chilean government entity, having the remaining 10% interest.

The mine is an open pit operation. The majority of ore is transported to heap leach pads, with lower grade ore being processed through dump leaching. Copper bearing solutions are processed in an SX-EW plant to produce LME grade A copper cathode.
