Awankha in the times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a village famous for its Mango trees 'Amb de Bagh'. Afghanistan Merchants passing by this areas were offered free mangos here usually. Accordingly place was got famous by 'Aa Amb Kha' which later on got changed to Awankha.
This I had listened from my Grandfather.
