Here's where the bones are! Drive along the switchback road--there are several turnouts where you can get out of your car and see dinosaur bones, footprints, and fossil plants, with explanatory signs.

  • It's called "Dinosaur Ridge"; alternatively "Dakota Ridge" (referring to the "Hogback" ridge.
  • It's actually better to walk up and down the switchback - too many people stop alongside the road with little regard for the pedestrians, so the parked cars either block the walkway (causing pedestrians to walk out in the road) or block traffic. You'd have to stop every couple of hundred feet to see everything. There is a good-sized parking lot between the switchback and the visitor's center. The hike is not strenuous.
