The Iveagh Market is named after Edward Cecil Guinness, who became Lord Iveagh. Designed by F G Hicks (1889), the Iveagh Market utilised modern construction materials and engineering techniques, along with Portmarnock red brick, Portland limestone and Newry granite detailing typical of the Iveagh Trust buildings.
