    Technically this is not part of the 'contiguous' United States because it is seperated from the rest of the US by the lake of the Woods and Canada. It is however the only portion of the US outside of Alaska that is above the 49th parallel.

    You're wrong. It IS part of the Contiguous United States. Minnesota shares it's boarders with other US states and the angle is part of Minnesota. If the portion of Lake of the Woods between the angle and "the mainland" were Canadian that'd be a different story, but it's not. One can travel, by water, from the angle to Minnesota without leaving the US borders.
