Castell Park (Malgrat de Mar)

The park is situated on a small hill over the rest of the town and allows the visitor to see almost all the village and the Delta of La Tordera. The total surface of the park is about 10.000m-. The park was created in 1959 around the tower, called popularly the "torreta", a defensive construction linked to the Castle of Palafolls (documented from 1382) and a symbol of the local patrimony.

During the 17th century it served as a look-out tower against the pirates of the period, in the Civil War years, some shelters and some places for machine guns were constructed. The historical function of look-out tower it's still kept today with just one goal, enjoy of the sights of Malgrat de Mar.

in the Castell Park we can find a sample of the Mediterranean botanical species, like a small scrub of pines and a great extension of aromatic plants.

Accessibility

Due to its topography, the access to the Castell Park from the center of the town has been difficult. That's the reason why an inclined elevator has been installed, it allows the visitor to access the park from the heart of the town.

The Castell Park has an accessible itinerary that makes it transitable for people with reduced mobility. At the same time, the disposition of the aromatic species allows the persons with visual handicaps to enjoy of the different olfactory spaces.
