Saint-Giles's Church (Liège)

Saint-Giles's Church is a good example of Liegeois building which blends romanesque and neo-romanesque styles harmoniously.

Saint-Giles's Church was established in 1124 by Prince-Bishop Albéron Ist. of Leuven. After the addition of a Western nave in 1893, the building was shaped like a Latin crucifix, in a neo-mosan style. The materials were taken on the spot : slate sandstone and coal sandstone.

Of the bygone abbey, only the church remains, although it changed a lot in the course of the centuries. The church remained disused from 1786 till 1803.
