Dalem Joyokusuman was built in 1916 in the reign of Sultan Hamengku Buwono VII. This Dalem was inhabited by Raden Wedono Condrokusumo, a cousin of Sultan Hamengku Buwono VII. Because of that, this Dalem was at first named Dalem Condrokusuman. After Raden Wedono passed away, the Dalem was occupied by one of Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX brothers who is GBPH Bintoro, an assistant of Sultan. After GBPH Bintoro passed away, the Dalem has been settled by GBPH Joyokusumo, the youngest brother of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, since 1988. It was then called nDalem Joyokusuman. Beside functioning as a residence, this Dalem is also used as a place visited by tourists, i.e. by serving them lunch and dinner with the Sultan’s menus. Various traditional activities could also be seen in the Dalem, such as the process of making handmade Batik and practising Gamelan. Besides, Dalem is often used as an exhibition.
