This is a unique open air museum has been built by Eastern Railway.

This museum is located at Howrah spread over an area of 4 acres. It was inaugurated on April 07, 2006. Presently about 25,000 visitors every month enjoy the rich heritage of railway at this unique institution. It has become a must visit destination for the tourists and railway enthusiasts.

  • This rail museum is unique in the sense that it is only the 2nd Railway museum in the country after National Rail Museum(NRM)at New Delhiand the FIRST IN EASTERN INDIA. It houses old and rare steam locomotives, first electric loco built in the country, various artifacts,models,evolution of signalling,electrification,tracks etc. A replica of Howrah Station houses photographs tracing the history of railways in Eastern India.A toy train would keep the kids busy.The fountain and the greenery makes this a place for relaxation as well as learning about the heritage and history of railways in Eastern India.This museum was thrown open to public in April 2006 and could be built largely due to the efforts of the then General Manager of Eastern Railway Shri Shyam Kumar and a group of dedicated railway officers and staff working under him. OPEN : 1PM-8PM; THURSDAY CLOSED; ENTRY FEE- Rs. 5 ONLY; TOY TRAIN-Rs.10; LOCATION- IF YOU COME FROM HOWRAH BRIDGE SIDE THEN CROSS NEW COMPLEX OF HOWRAH STATION,GO STRAIGHT AHEAD FOR ABOUT 300 M AND YOU WILL SEE THE MUSEUM TO YOUR RIGHT.
