A small volcanic island claimed by Norway. Peter I Island (in Norwegian Peter 1.s øy) is a volcanic island located near Antarctica. It was discovered by Fabian von Bellingshausen off West Antarctica on January 21, 1821. It takes its name after the Russian emperor Peter I (the Great).
