statue, monument, interesting place
Sweden’s oldest public memorial is this statue of Gustav Vasa placed in front of the Riddarhuset [House of Nobles] as early as 1773. Sculpted by Pierre Hubert L'Archevêque, it was cast by Gerard Meyer. The king is presented in the Burgundian dress used to show that the person depicted was historical.
The Latin text reads: "To Gustav Ericsson, from being a noble citizen became the best King, the avenging protector of Fatherland, Freedom and Religion, raised after two centuries at the behest of the Nobility anno 1773."
