Sirijap is a small plain in southern part of the Aksai Chin region of India, which is now controlled by China but claimed by India. It is on northern bank of the Pangong Lake. India had established three posts in Sirijap between April 1960 and October 1962. Chinese forces defeated these posts on 21 October 1962 after encountering fierce resistance. Indian Army major Dhan Singh Thapa of 1st Battalion, 8th Gorkha Rifles Regiment was awarded the "Param Vir Chakra", India's highest military gallantry award in this war.
