One of the three members of the Valiant Class of Tugs assigned to the service force of Commander, Naval Region Northwest, this tug is part of the newest class and design of ship-assist tugboats designed for US Navy service in over 30 years. Built at the Martinac Shipbuilding Corp of Tacoma, the tugs are operated by civilian mariners contracted by the US Navy.
