INTRODUCTION

Indonesian Citrus and Subtropical Fruits Research Institute (ICSFRI) is one of the technical research units under the Central Research and Development Institute for Horticulture - Agency of Agriculture Research and Development (AARD), based-on Letter of Agricultural Ministerial Regulation No. 13/Permentan/OT.140/3/2006. ICSFRI is located on mountainside of Panderman in Batu, East Java on 950 m asl.

MAIN TASK

Research on citrus and subtropical fruits i.e apple, grape, longan, and other subtropical fruits.


FUNCTION

* Research on genetics, plant breeding and seed production of citrus and subtropical fruits.
* Research on exploration, conservation, characterization and the utilization of germplasm of citrus and subtropical fruits.
* Research on agronomy, morphology, physiology, ecology, entomology and phytopathology of citrus and subtropical fruits.
* Research on technology component system of citrus and subtropical fruits agribusiness.
* Technical services and assistances of citrus and subtropical fruits.
* Preparation on corporation, information, documentation, and dissemination of citrus and subtropical fruits resulted technology.

RESEARCH PLANT STRATEGIC

Research strategies of Balitjestro have determined in Strategic Plan of Balitjestro as basis and guidance for internal component to carry on those activities during 5 years which is also referred to Strategic Plan of AARD and Center of Horticulture Research and Development. The researches objectives are the capabilities to create and produce integrate and trendsetter innovation technologies. Strategic Plan of Balitjestro is including researches program on (1) exploitation, maintenance, utilization, and conservation of genetic resources of Horticulture fruits, (2) Plant Breeding and production system and economic technology of citrus improvement, (3) Research and Development of subtropical fruits, (4) seed production capacity of citrus and subtropical fruits enhancement, (5) agribusiness model for high values commodities and agricultural product improvement, (6) Analyze and solve of urgent problems and national or local emergency cases, and (7) information, communication and dissemination system improvement and feed-back agriculture innovation.


RESOURCES

ICSFRI has 59 official staffs including research scientist (15) and administrative or technical assistance staffs (44). The research facilities are including tissue culture, phytopathology, virology, entomology, plant breeding and data management laboratory, 8 experimental fields and germplasm collections. ICSFRI have been collecting and maintaining 172 varieties of citrus, 61 varieties of apples, 34 varieties of grapes, 4 varieties of longan, 3 varieties of lychee, 16 varieties of avocado, 208 varieties of mangos, and 13 varieties of subtropical fruits.
