Recanto das Emas is an administrative region of the Federal District, Brazil. The city was founded on July 28, 1993 to meet the demand for housing by Settlement Programme of the Federal District Government at the time was the governor Joaquim Roriz.
The area was occupied by small farms and possessed large quantities of the plant characteristic of the cerrado: Tan ostrich, also has a site called "Recanto" that by being in the cerrado also lived many emus, whence came the name Recanto das Emas.
