Second World War 1939-1945, railway, bunker, invisible
When the Southern Railway HQ was evacuated from Waterloo to Deepdene House, these tunnels were built to protect the switchboard and the traffic control as well as sleeping accommodation for the operators and senior staff. After a fire in the tunnels led to the discovery of asbestos, the tunnels were sealed off in 1999.
