The old neighbourhood in Bishkek. Bishkek was established as a city in 1878. The original name of Bishkek was Pishpek. Then, in 1926 it was renamed to Frunze and in 1991 it received its current name Bishkek. Bishkek in Kirghiz language means "a stick to mix butter"
