The US Navy began communications operations here in 1962. Fort Allen was later redesignated as Naval Radio Station, Fort Allen in 1963 and as Naval Communications Station, Puerto Rico in 1970. Fort Allen was the site of the transmitter while Salinas was the receiver site. NAVCOMMSTA Puerto Rico was moved to Roosevelt Roads in 1980. A few Yagi aerials are still visible in the map imagery.
