Basic Information:
The Metropolitan Learning Center (MLC) is a public interdistrict magnet school with a global and international studies theme. The theme is integrated throughout the curriculum and features an intensive study of world languages and an extensive use of technology. In addition to languages, integrated topics include world geography; government, politics and current events; global economics and environment; and world cultures and societies.

-Laptop computers assigned to each student
-Instruction in Chinese, French and Spanish
-Virtual High School courses available to qualifying students
-Service learning at all grade levels, with special project in sophomore year
-Dress code reflecting the school’s position as the students’ workplace
-Partnerships with businesses that include job shadowing and internship opportunities
-Opportunities to host international students and to study abroad

Winner of the Goldman-Sachs Award for Excellence in International Education 2004

Named as a Magnet School of Distinction by the Magnet Schools of America in 2002, 2004,2005, and 2006

100% of MLC graduates were accepted to institutions
of higher education and 80% were accepted to
four year colleges
