Marlboro Elementary School, which opened in 1971, was the third school that was built in the district. Since 1971, the township has grown tremendously, increasing the district's student population as well, and necessitating several additions to the original building. In 1992, a computer lab, library and offices were built. In 1996, the Mustang Room (named after the school's mascot, a mustang), art room, and several classrooms were built.

The mission of Marlboro Elementary School is to foster strong academics; promote outstanding student discipline rooted in a school wide citizenship program; and encourage excellent home and school communication. Our most important task is to help each child become a competent learner and a responsible citizen. We call our school the "K.I.N.D. Kid School" - Where Kids Care to Learn and Learn to Care.

The school is very proud of the many accomplishments by its students and staff. For the sixth year in a row and the eighth year in total, the school was named a State Champion Physical Fitness Award winner, as part of the President's Challenge National Youth Physical Fitness Program. Thousands of students nationwide participated in the program. The school was one of only three in its category in the state to win the award. In 2001, VFW Post 4374 nominated Principal Jon Shutman as Principal of the Year, and art teacher Betty Matlin as Teacher of the Year. Reading teacher Laura Fischer was recognized as the Monmouth County Citizen of the Year in 1999 for her work in supporting the Linkages homeless shelter. In 2000, her students were recognized as Monmouth County Student Volunteers of the Year.
