tower, scheduled ancient monument
With its adjoining 100ft wall, this tower is one of the most magnificent remaining pieces of old Eburacum's Roman Legionary fortress. Built in the 4th century, possibly under the reign of Constantinus Chlorus, the ten-sided structure comprises 17ft of original Roman masonry, topped with another 11ft of medieval, 13th century work.
