  Like with I 38, the left and the right side of the bunker are on two different floor levels, which are connected by a stair (see last photo). The difference of the floor levels is reflected in the shape of the roof, where the left side is higher than the right side (see first photo). What is the reason for the two levels? Of all bunkers of the German fortification circle of Strasbourg, only I 38 and I 39 have this special design.
