fortification, Roman Empire, invisible
This Roman fortress was the headquarters of the 2nd Legion Augusta. It was built about AD 75, when Governor Sextus Julius Frontinus began the conquest of Roman Wales. The army abandoned Isca toward towards the end of the third century AD. However recent finds suggest Roman occupation of some kind as late as AD 380.
