Vast volcanic crater inside which at least four successive volcanic cones emerged. These cones were (mis)named 'the three kings', all but one has been quarried away. The outer edge of the earlier explosion crater can be traced by the ridge line of the cring of hills around this area. Water falling in this place is funnelled under ground from here to emerge at Western Springs while the lava ejected from this site created the Meola reef which extends from Western Springs into the Waitamata Harbour to the north.
