Groningen is a municipality and the capital city of the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. With a population of 195,000 (2013), it is by far the largest city in the north of the Netherlands. Groningen is a university city, inhabited on average by about 50,000 students. It the most bicycle-dependent city in the Netherlands, and aguably the world, with nearly 55% of all journies in the city being made by bicycle.
