Rivière-du-Loup (known of 1845 to 1919 under the name of Fraserville) is a city of the Quebec to situated Canada on the shore south of the river Saint Lawrence to 200 km to the northeast of the city of Quebec (location: 47°49′59″ N 69°31′59″ O / 47,83306, -69.53306). The new city of Rivière-du-Loup was created December 30 1998. She is coming from the grouping of the city of Rivière-du-Loup and municipality of the parish of Saint-Patrice-de-la-Rivière-du-Loup. The city is the administrative center of the regional municipality of county of Rivière-du-Loup in the Bas-Saint-Laurent. The city was named after the nearby river, whose name means Wolf's River in French.
