Located on the Gleden Hill, the Trinity Monastery marks the original site of the town of Gleden. The settlement was founded by 1207, the monastery by 1212. The town was destroyed in the Vyatkans in 1438, and the inhabitants settled in Morozovitsa to the southwest and Ustyug (Velikii Ustyug) across the river to the north. The monastery recovered, but was abandoned in 1841. It was reopened in 1912 as a nunnery, but closed again in 1925. From the early 1980s it served as a museum. Most of the architectural ensemble dates from the 17th and 18th centuries.
