  • Oneata has two village called Waiqori and Dakuiloa. It has one of the biggest coral reef in the country. The island is very rich in sea resources.

  • In the 1800's, the American ship 'Argo" ran agroung on Bukatatanoa reef. One crew was killed and the rest went ashore. They brought with them the dreaded "Lila balavu" as their extra baggage, a desease that spread throughout the Fiji's and killed many people. Bukatatanoa is the 'kedra i cavuti' or the traditional name of the people and Island of Oneata. In 1830, the first missionaries to Fiji landed on the Island, 5 years before the Wesleyen missionaries of Cargill and Cross landed on Lakeba in 1835.
