Dionysios Solomos Square (Zakynthos Town)

Greece / Zakinthos / Zakynthos Town

Where the square is now located this was once all water (sea) but after the earthquake of 1953 and during the works for the extension of the city the square was constructed.
The square is full of statues of important figures of the island including the Greek National poet Dionysios Solomos (hence the name of the square), the poet Ugo Foscolo, the composer Paul Karrer and the Statue of Liberty. The square is also surrounded by beautiful buildings including the Byzantine Museum, the library, the Cultural Centre and the Church of Saint Nicholas that of which is one of the three buildings that survived the earthquake.
