Housed in the 1912-built former Machine Shop & Foundry of the US Lighthouse Service Depot on Staten Island, the National Lighthouse Museum officially opened to the public in August of 2015 and now serves to educate visitors about the history and technology of the nation’s lighthouses and those who worked to operate and maintain them.

During its service with the UHLHS, the Machine Shop & Foundry manufactured buoys, chains, anchors, sinkers and structural elements for use on Lighthouses, Lighthships, buoys and eventually manufactured parts for use on tenders and cutters.
