Built in 784, the main hall houses a 6-meter-tall statue of Guanyin (Kannon) or Avalokiteshwara of the Thousand Arms, goddess of mercy and compassionthat, which has been designated an Important Cultural Property.

The temple's lakeside location also affords beautiful views of Mount Nantai and Lake Chuzenji.
