Newly transferred to the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve from the Islands Trust Fund, the 38.7 ha Loretta's Wood property has high ecological values. Four provincially rare or endangered plant communities, one vulnerable plant community, and the red-legged frog—a COSEWIC-listed Species of Concern—occur here. The property also contains wetland and terrestrial herbaceous ecosystems, both of which have been identified in the joint federal-provincial Sensitive Ecosystem Inventory initiative. Although no services and facilities are currently provided, a trail system is under consideration for the future
