Cala dels Pinets

Spain / Alacant / Calp /

This is a south-facing beach of rounded pebbles, from which on can take a short walk to the place known as “Mar Morta” and “Roques Negres”. The “Mar Morta” –“Dead Sea” in the Valencian language- owes its name to a small and shallow strip of sea protected from the waves by rocks.
It is a safe place for children to swim. Next to the “Mar Morta” we have “Roques Negres” or Black Rocks which consist of formations of iron-bearing rocks in an unusual ochre-reddish colour. In this cove we also can find an area that in the Middle Ages was stone quarry for construction in the old town, and one can still see the cavities left by the stone blocks hewn at that time.
