Pangsha Upazila (Rajbari district) with an area of 453.25 sq km, is Sujanagar upazila on the north, Shailkupa, Sreepur (Magura) and Baliakandi upazilas on the south, Rajbari sadar upazila on the east, Khoksa upazila on the west. Main rivers are Ganges, Gorai, Chandana, and Chitra.

The location of Pangsha town is 23.7884685N 89.4236033E. Pangsha (Town) consists of 9 wards and 20 mahallas. The area of the town is 16.34 sq km and population 25020; male 51.08% and female 48.92%. Literacy rate among the town people is 36.9%. The municipality was established in 1990.

Pangsha thana was established in 1863 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. It consists of one municipality, 9 wards, 17 union parishads, 346 mouzas and 316 villages.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Population 317752; male 51.78% and female 48.22%; Muslim 89.12%, Hindu 10.4%, others 0.48%.

Literacy and educational institutions: Average literacy 23.1%; male 28.9%, female 16.8%. Educational institutions: private college 10, private high school 46, madrasa 19, government primary school 96, private primary school 83, satellite school 13, community school 6, vocational training centre 3. Noted among these are the Pangsha College (1969), Pangsha George High School (1916) and Ratandia Rajanikanta High School (1920).

Main occupations: Agriculture 43.7%, fishing 1.24%, agricultural labourer 28.9%, wage labourer 2.57%, weaving 1.56%, business 8.95%, service 3.89%, others 9.19%.

Land use: Cultivable land 42202 hectare; single crop 19%, double crop 59%, treble crop 22%.
