Wickenden Street, located on the south end of College Hill, is a popular destination for students and faculty of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and Brown University. It also attracts Providence locals, particularly the artisan and hipster crowds. The Wikenden area has numerous independent shops, art galleries, a farmer's market, and restaurants. The site was once home to a large Portuguese-American community (beginning in the 1800s), and many of the homes remain decorated with pastel colors of the Portuguese-style.
