Pergola Walk

Extended more than a mile in length and was planted with espaliered fruit trees and grapevines. Meant for riding through on horseback or strolling on foot. Hearst had intended to decorate the path with sculptors from the 1915 San Francisco world's fair, but never did so. Hearst instructed he wanted it high enough for "a tall man with a tall hat on a tall horse" to ride through with out bumping his head. Made of upended concrete water pipes standing eleven feet tall.
