Hordt is a 'cloister-village', it's cloister was destroyed in a farmer's revolt sometime around the 15th century. As in most old places, the stones from the cloister were used for building more houses. Large stones can be found all through the village; some incorporated into posts to hold the gates enclosing former barnyards.
