A reservoir lying within the Pentland Hills, Threipmuir Reservoir lies 2 miles (3 km) southeast of Balerno, to the south of Edinburgh, and was built on the 1840s as one of a network of reservoirs that supply the city with water. Threipmuir contains wild brown trout and is also stocked by the Malleny Angling Association to provide recreational fishing.
