  • The area is prohibited to diving because of a Byzantine ship wreck situated in the south of the island. The dives therefore take place near the Neandros rocks (Tavsan island) in the south of Sivri island. The jellyfish, in different colours, will accompany you regardless the increase in depth. You should not be frightened by these jelly fish which we usually see close to the shore during their mating season. You must show care not approach them if you have no knowledge of their species. You will see a rock covered with fishing nets when your depth gauge reads 37 meters. This rock, named `ghost rock` by the divers, is home to many different life forms. The surface is invaded by white soft corals and presents a spectacular image to the macro photographer very much like the other diving spots in the Marmara Sea. Follow the sandy bottom toward the deep. Crabs that have made homes out of broken or empty fan mussels (Pinna nobilis) will pose for you in the light of you flashlights or cameras. Do not forget it is time to return to your decompression stops when you reach 47 meters. -This text is taken from the book `Diving Guide of Turkey` by Fehmi SENOK
