Ancient Face Carved into Side of Lee Mountain

USA / Arizona / Big Park /

Viking-looking face carved into side of mountain. Not an anamorphic rock like some people will tell you. Sedona is littered with these on its buttes and mountain sides. On all cardinal directions. They were made thousands of years ago, when sea ways still went through the region and the four corners area was, in-truth, occupied, primarily as a resource center for its vast copper ore deposits to make bronze. Not in the history books obviously, but with enough hard work, physical and mental, you can figure it out. Don't be lazy, get out there and see what's REALLY in the American Southwest for yourself. Throw away you preconceptions, the lame (and overpriced) tour guide info and what they teach you in 9th grade history and use your own mind to understand our great nation's past and the truth. There's a lot to find out there if you want to.

The faces in this region, due to the years of climate changing and heavy rains, have worn away much detail. Think how Egypt would look if it had four seasons and more rain. These are mostly sandstone after all. They are most easy to see in the winter months and later or earlier in the day when the son is stronger and cuts low (horizontally) across the rockfaces. Some are only see still for an hour or two then start to vanish as the light changes. The region must have been amazing back when it was a thriving port area.

Get out there and have fun!
