Elms College is a coeducational private liberal arts college that is located in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Elms College is affiliated with the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
History
Elms College was founded in 1899 as Our Lady of the Elms as a high school academy for girls. By 1908 the academy expanded to also offer two-year degrees for teachers as the Normal School of Our Lady of the Elms. In 1928 the normal school was renamed College of Our Lady of the Elms and admitted its first students for non-teaching degrees. The school has 33 majors.
The College of Our Lady of the Elms, founded in 1928 by the Sisters of St. Joseph, is a Catholic, liberal arts, coeducational college. The college affirms its original, comprehensive goal of combining education for life with education for a career. Founded to educate women and aware of the importance of this tradition, the college now opens all its programs and services to both men and women.
