Cabeço Lighthouse

Brazil / Alagoas / Piacabucu /
 lighthouse, abandoned / shut down

This little lighthouse at the mouth of the River São Francisco is apparently a prefabricated structure of cast iron (possibly French) which has probably been on this coast for as long as a century. It was probably built on the land, but the relentless action of the waves leaves it today around 300m offshore.

This fascinating little structure is slowly being destroyed by the Atlantic Ocean waves. Today it leans over at a precarious angle of some 10 or 20 degrees. How long will it resist?
