The National Institute of Technology Patna is the 18th National Institute of Technology, created by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India on January 28, 2004. Its origin can be traced to 1886 with the establishment of a Survey Training School and subsequent elevation to Bihar School of Engineering, Patna in 1900. A graduate level curriculum was introduced in 1924. It was renamed as Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1932.

  • Dr. Deo Dutta Sharma studied Mechanical Engineering from this great Institute, then BCE, during 1959-62; later who became the first Indian to designed a Blast Furnace, DSP,SAIL; he also built Indias most modern Bhilai Blast Furnace No.7 Complex for SAIL serving in MECON. He is indipendent inventor of 'System Engineering' in 1953-54 when he was a student of BB Collegiate, Muzaffarpur. Hats off to this great Institute.
